Can I feed my dog vegetables? Tips on adding veggies to your dog’s diet!
Planning to add veggies in your pet's diet? Look here!
If vegetables are healthy for us, then they must be healthy for our dog… right?
Contrary to this line of thinking, not all vegetables are good for your pet. There are actually some that could be dangerous and toxic to their diet. And even when you give your dog healthy vegetables, experts recommend that you should treat vegetables like a healthy treat instead of as a replacement for their regular dog food.
With that in mind, here are a few veggie options that are safe for your pet to try!
1. Broccoli
High in fiber and vitamin C, the occasional broccoli treat can boost your dog’s immune system and strengthen their bones.
Tip: The tough broccoli stems might be tough for your pet to swallow so try offering them cooked broccoli instead!
2. Carrots
Did you know that carrots are a common ingredient in dog food? Carrots are a great low-calorie snack that can even improve your dog’s teeth!
Tip: If your puppy is going through teething, chewing on a frozen carrot might give them some relief!
3. Celery
Low in fat and cholesterol, celery can be a great treat for dogs that need to shed a few pounds. An occasional celery snack also has vitamins that can promote a healthy heart and prevent cancer.
Tip: A celery treat can also be helpful in freshening your dog’s breath!
4. Brussel Sprouts
While they carry a lot of antioxidants and nutrients, brussel sprouts might make your dog pretty gassy. If you’re fine with those gassy side effects, then this could be a healthy treat!
Tip: Since brussel sprouts are similar to cabbages, cabbages are also safe for your dog! Although, the same gassy warning applies.
If you’re planning on modifying your pet’s diet, we always recommend consulting your veterinarian first. Although for every case, if you plan on giving your pets vegetables, remember to feed them in moderation. Always make sure to also monitor them for potential side effects.
