Let’s go to the mall: dos and don’ts of malling with your furbaby
If you’re a furparent that worries a lot (like us!), we compiled a few dos and don’ts of malling with your furbaby!
Taking your furbaby to the mall for the first time is a big step for any pet parent. If you’re a pet parent that worries a lot (like us!), we compiled a few dos and don’ts of malling with your furbaby!
DO
Check the mall’s pet regulations!
There are plenty of pet-friendly malls around the country, but they might have different rules for handling your furbaby. For example, most SM Malls require pets to be hand-carried or placed inside carriers. You should also check which stores and restaurants allow pets inside too!
DON’T
Forget your pet’s diaper!
When malls require pets to wear diapers, they’re not questioning your pet’s behavior or training. To make sure the malls are hygienic and healthy for everyone, malls have to take every precaution to avoid any accidents.
DO
Make sure your pet is comfortable and socialized
If your furbaby has never interacted with anyone outside your home before, going to the mall might be very overwhelming. We recommend starting slowly and gradually exposing your furbaby first––maybe try taking them to a smaller venue or to less crowded areas.
DON’T
Leave your pet’s leash, collar, and tag
Even if you have the most well-trained pet in the world, they can also get carried away when they’re too excited. It’s best to take necessary precautions in case your pet tries to roam or run off somewhere else.
DO
Respect other mall-goers
Not every person is used to having pets around. Be wary of people who seem nervous around your furbaby and try to avoid interactions that would further upset them. As a courtesy, always be mindful of others’ boundaries.
DON’T
Forget to check the mall events calendar!
Every month, the SM team works hard to plan events for furparents all over the country. Don’t miss events like Summer Pet Fairs, Costume Contest, Christmas Pawtys, and many more!
