Love Knows No Bounds: A Heartwarming Story of An Unlikely Cat-and-Dog Friendship
But have you ever heard a story of a dog and cat actually getting along? More than that, how about a dog and cat who treat each other like family?
Ever heard of the term fighting like cats and dogs? It seems like there’s always been the idea the cats are dogs’ sworn enemies, and vice versa. Some might even be insulted when you call them a cat person when according to them, they’re most definitely a dog person.
But have you ever heard a story of a dog and cat actually getting along? More than that, how about a dog and cat who treat each other like family?
On the month that celebrates love, we’re featuring the story of Myla and Sunny, a tuxedo cat and an aspin-border collie. Their unlikely friendship is proof that love knows no bounds––even between animals.
Who are Myla and Sunny?
Sunny is an aspin-border collie rescue from Lara’s Ark and Myla is a tuxedo cat from CARA. We initially adopted Myla as one half of a bonded pair, but unfortunately, her twin passed away from complications due to FIP, FIV.
How did they react when they met each other?
Sunny has also been a cat dog. I think she thinks she’s a cat, and was raised by cats. So when we adopted Myla from CARA, we brought Sunny just to make sure she was really okay with––because at the time, Sunny was the baby. She took to Myla so fast and she became such a nanny dog.
How did they become so close?
In a fun way, I think they raised each other. Because Myla lost her twin so early on and they were really, really bonded. I think what people don’t know is animals can enter depression. She was not eating for a while, she didn’t wanna eat, she didn’t wanna play. And so it’s like Sunny became her mom.
What does their friendship look like?
They just want to be next to each other. They love to sleep together and just cuddle. One of their favorite things to do every day is that Myla will groom Sunny’s entire body, which takes a long time ‘cause there’s so much body. And then Sunny’s favorite form of grooming is giving Myla her paw, and we call them manicures.
What has Myla and Sunny’s unlikely bond taught you?
I think the biggest takeaway is dismantling all the stereotypes that dogs don’t like cats, cats don’t like dogs. Because Sunny was raised by cats and then she adopted her very own cat. When we introduce Myla it’s like, oh this is Sunny’s cat, Sunny’s baby.
