Pet Parenting Hacks 101

Who says the shorter way can’t be the right way? As pet parents, some of us may have discovered tricks and tips that can help make our jobs a little easier. Here are some of our favorite hacks for dog and cat parents everywhere! 

Parenting hack for cleaning after your pet: 

• Prepare two open poop bags in your pocket 

If you’ve ever cleaned up after a dog, you might’ve experienced getting flustered when trying to unpack a poop bag with one hand and holding on to your pet with the other. A great tip is to have pre-opened poop bags already handy in your pocket! If you have a scooper, another hack is to wrap a poop bag around the scooper so the poop is already bagged once you scoop! 

Parenting hack for protecting your furniture: 

• Use double-sided tape or foil 

Do you have a cat that likes climbing anywhere and everywhere? If there’s furniture that is too fragile or dangerous for your cat to climb on, try using double-sided tape. Place a strip of tape on the furniture surface and expose the adhesive side. Cats dislike the sticky feeling of tape and would then hesitate before climbing back up! If you’re worried that double-sided tape might damage your furniture, using aluminum foil is also a good option. 

Parenting hack for cleaning a dog bed 

• Cover with a pillowcase 

Dog beds can be tricky to wash and clean. A great hack is to use old pillowcases! Cover your pet’s dog bed with a pillowcase that you can easily slip on and off when laundry day comes. 

Parenting hack for a smelly litter box 

• Mix in baking soda 

Does your cat’s litter box still smell even if you regularly change it? A tip from other pet parents is to mix some baking soda so it can absorb the odors coming from the litter! Although, make sure you avoid scented baking soda since cats hate artificial scents. 

Parenting hack for furry clothes 

• Try a rubber glove 

The mark of a pet parent: pet fur all over the clothes! Instead of using up dozens of lint rollers, a useful hack is cleaning fur with a rubber glove. Put on the glove, lightly dampen it, then run it over your furry clothes. You’d be surprised to see how the fur just rolls off your gloved hand!
