What Happened at Vet Chats? June Recap!
Here’s a recap of last month’s inquiries and recommendations from Dr Jaline!
Last June, we launched our Vet Chats with Doc Jaline! On Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7-8PM, Super Pets Club members can ask a trusted vet questions about their pet’s nutrition, training, and other health concerns.
Here’s a recap of last month’s inquiries and recommendations.
Hi Doc! How do you train your dogs where to pee?
Doc Jal: What I usually advise is to put a pee pad or newspaper in one place. If they can trace the smell, they usually urinate in the same place. Learn also how to say “No” with an authoritative voice.
Hi Doc! First time fur parent to a pregnant dog here! Kailan ko pwede ihawalay yung newborn puppies sa mommy nila?
Doc Jal: Wow, congratulations to you and your mama dog! If you meant in regards to drinking milk from their mom, it’s around three weeks to one month. If their teeth have developed already, it can be ouchy for their mama dog and she may eventually resist.
Hi Doc! Is exclusive dog feeding advisable or is it okay to switch between dog food and table food from time to time?
Doc Jal: As much as possible, I don’t advise giving table food as it can introduce urinary, renal, and gastrointestinal problems. Pancreatitis may happen too. If your furbaby is used to one kind of dog food, I suggest sticking with it.
Hi Doc! My dog’s scalp sometimes gets reddish and hot. Is that caused by allergies?
Doc Jal: There are a lot of possible reasons including (yes) allergies, so it’s best to observe what he eats and his surroundings as well. Shedding can be an outcome of the climate, too. But please observe if the skin gets moist and if there are any alopecic areas.
Hi Doc! Just want to ask, pwede na bang ilakad yung dog the day after magpa-vaccine?
Doc Jal: Yes, that is okay. Although lethargy can be observed for a day or two after vaccination.
Hi Doc! We recently adopted a Malinois x Retriever and I’m just wondering, what are their common sensitivities and what should we watch out for?
Doc Jal: If they will be trained, both breeds do not respond well to harsh training and patience is needed, especially since Retrievers are playful but very smart. You should also watch out for the food they eat. Malinois are prone to bloat as they have deep narrow chests while Retrievers are prone to infections and allergies.
Vet Chats happen every Tuesday and Saturday evening from 7-8PM. See you there!
